Interview with Jaehyun Cho | Motion Graphic Designer at Super Very More
Could you briefly introduce yourself and tell us how you started working in 3D?
Hello, I am Jaehyun Cho, a motion graphic designer currently working at Super Very More Studio in Korea. I majored in fine arts in college and studied design after graduation, leading to my current role as a motion graphic designer. Initially, I started with 2D design but began studying 3D to expand my expression, creating various broadcast titles and branding videos. Recently, I produced the opening video for the LCK CUP(League of Legends Champions Korea CUP), which received a lot of positive feedback.

Your recent project, the 2025 LCK CUP opening title, is very impressive. What was the most challenging part of the concept planning process?
This project was significant as it was for the popular LCK tournament, which has a dedicated fanbase. We put a lot of effort into incorporating the narratives and symbols of each team into the video, working closely with Riot Games Korea. I particularly remember the extensive R&D we conducted to accurately portray the real players.

Why did you decide to use Marvelous Designer for this project? How did it help with the art direction?
One of the key points of the video was the appearance of real players, so we needed to represent their uniforms accurately. Marvelous Designer was the best choice for this. We received the uniform designs close to the production deadline, and using Marvelous Designer allowed us to make quick adjustments. It not only streamlined our workflow but also enabled us to detail the uniforms, especially in close-up shots of players like Faker.

What was the most enjoyable part of the project for you?
The most exciting part was placing the 3D-rendered characters of the players into the custom 3D environment and directing the scenes. Although I was concerned that it might look awkward, the effort put into achieving a lively presentation paid off, resulting in an engaging final product.

You must have developed many techniques for overcoming challenges in various projects. Could you share some tips for Marvelous Designer users?
I don't have detailed knowledge of how clothes are made and how to align the patterns, but I use the CONNECT store in Marvelous Designer to reference and modify assets. This approach helps me create high-quality outfits and simulations even under tight deadlines. I always check CONNECT first before starting a project. If I encounter a difficult outfit, I download assets from CONNECT to see how the patterns are constructed and how they work in simulations. Even without knowing the principles of garment making, this method helps me achieve the desired level of detail.

Finally, do you have any advice for beginners in 3D art? Any career tips or mindset suggestions for creating artwork?
Consistently learning new tools is crucial in 3D art. New features and tools are constantly emerging, and it's important to actively incorporate them into your work. Sticking to familiar tools can limit your expression, so in the fast-evolving field of 3D art, embracing change and integrating it into your artwork is essential.
